Rules to putting yourself in context

I used to suffer from very low self-esteem. I used to also compare myself (typically unfavourably) to others all the time. I've noticed that many on here do.

Part of the problem was that I thought too highly of other people and not highly enough of myself. In time, I have realised that no one is perfect - far from it. If I slip back into the 'everyone is better/superior to me mode' I remind myself of the following:-

1) Everyone makes mistakes. Mistakes are not what define you, but your ability to learn from them. Why expect more of yourself than others when the rest of humanity is so messed up? Give yourself a break.
2) Everyone is an ars*hol* sometimes. Even nice people can be really nasty from time to time. It's in our DNA to make mistakes and hurt others at times. Whilst I am far from perfect, I know that most people have hurt others far more than I have.
3) Everyone sh*ts. Every living adult has had stinky diarrhoea at some point - chances are many times. How can anyone look up to and idolise anyone if they know this??? Anyone???
4) Let's be honest, even really good looking people look funny naked. One of life's greatest jokes is that it doesn't matter how good looking you are, everyone's 'bits' look downright peculiar. Just a quick viewing of Embarrassing Bodies etc. will confirm this. It's one of life's great levellers.
5) Witty or interesting people pretty much only exist in Hollywood scripts and in books/novels. That's why people watch/read them.
6) Most people are full of sh**. Let's be honest here. Those who are the most full of sh** are generally the most popular.

I'm sure I could come up with at least a few hundred more. That's just a start.
